Re-design of the high school textbook

These first two images are the original designs of the sub-chapter of the biology textbook I want to redesign.

Some quick notes on the important information in the chapter and sketch on the general idea on how I would like to work out the design.  I plan to keep the written information word-for-word but also omit some of it in the final design.

Here is a very rough draft of the design on Adobe Illustrator.  The fonts, color and layout will definitely change as I work through the idea next week...but I am already liking it better than the layout in the textbook.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Here is an updated version of the design.  Still working with the font and how it works with the background design of the leaves.  I did throw in the graph randomly, but I decided to isolate it in it's own corner because it is important information.  Does that look better??  Again, I'm sure it will change over the next week or so.  I would like the bulk of the information to go into the leaves and interact with the design more and I'm not really sure that the green background color is the right hue yet...anymore suggestions?

  1. I would say the graph needs to be integrated a bit better. It is a beautiful page, then the graph looks out of place, like it was just copy - pasted next to the leaf.

    1. Yes, I'd like to talk to the Biology teachers to get both student and teacher input!

  4. Ana,
This is looking really good. I agree with Daniel and you that the graph does look out of place. Perhaps try making the shape around the graph the same as the leaf shapes and attach it to the main stem?
