My favorite part of this painting is where the tornado is touching down on the ground! Ugh! Reminds me of having to get my roof replaced last spring from the hail storms. Love the contrast to the safe home/feeling like our homes are still so fragile when it comes to mother nature.
I have been trying to distill what my concept of home will be. What is home --really in the US. What do we romanticize? One of my friends suggested that this theme of displacement, diaspora, home--maybe more related to stages in life rather than what I had assumed had to do with divorce. She, dr and mother of 4, suggested it is the sandwich age of children leaving and sick parents and roles changing. Tornados, blow our both the good and the bad--they are destruction and cleansing--they create a new beginning--whether we want them or not.
Beautiful painting Lynn. The concept of destruction as a way of cleansing is very powerful. Whenever I begin cleaning and purging, the areas where I am working begin to look like a tornado hit them until I get the area cleaned up. In my case, the tornado is happening inside the home, not outside.
Lynn, There are several things I like about this artwork. The solemn sky in the background is truthful to the calm beyond. The angry sky in the foreground on the left depicts the blustering devastation impending. The actual vortex and it's impact to the ground create an emotional moment of despair. I too like the point of impact to the ground. That particular spot is so significant to this artwork. You captured the fury that out of nowhere is suddenly chaos and sheer destruction. Beautiful work.

I love the quiet destructive power behind this. It's beautiful, but almost terrifying in a way. Stunning!
ReplyDeleteI absolutely love the way the color is used!!!
